  • PJ O'Rourke turns in the most bitter column of his career: Being a former college student in the '80s, I of course am a slobbering fan of conservative humorist and former "Rolling Stone" columnist PJ O'Rourke; but what to make of his ultra-bitter essay at the Weekly Standard yesterday? In it, he claims that the US will eventually become one giant welfare-state slum under a Democratic regime; and that it deserves to happen, in that the Republicans have turned into the exact kind of backward superstitious fascists that is making Reagan spin in his grave as we speak. We all deserve punishment, he argues, and punishment is exactly what is coming, under an Obama administration and liberal-contro lled Congress. Sheesh, PJ, what happened to the funny stories about getting drunk with journalists at important world events?

  • Bitter Pill for the Netherlands: The Netherlands is proposing legislation that would force women previously convicted of child abuse to take birth control pills or risk have future children removed to foster care at birth. I am not necessarily opposed to this, but what about the men? Women are not the only ones who abuse children so why aren't men included in this bill?
